A Unique Way to Help the Troops

Operation Hero Miles was created by Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger in cooperation with close to a dozen United States Airlines in October, 2003. When started, the program allowed troops stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan to fly home on leave for free. It now gives family members of wounded servicemen and women free plane tickets to visit their loved ones recovering at military hospitals across the country. Operation Hero Miles gives ordinary citizens an opportunity to help our troops in a very direct way that makes a real difference in their lives.

The program is brilliant in its simplicity. Travelers donate their unused frequent flyer miles to the Fisher House Foundation.

Donations are currently being accepted from the following ten airlines: Airtran Airways, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Midwest Airlines, Northwest Airlines, United Air Lines and US Airways.

Heal the Bay's volunteer opportunities come in every shape and size. Projects take place at the beach, in the office, at school and even up a creek. Some last only a few hours, while others require more of a commitment. You can volunteer by yourself, with your friends, your family, your company, school or community group.

In return, you’ll receive our thanks, maybe a T-shirt, even school credit if you need it, and most importantly, that warm fuzzy feeling that you did something meaningful for the environment. Get involved today!

Recycling is the third R of the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Recycling means taking a product or material at the end of its useful life and turning it into a usable raw material to make another product. This section of our site provides information about how to recycle, why to recycle, and what you can recycle. And of course the Earth 911 green recycling locator box above can help you find where you can recycle. Just click above on recycling, and type in what you want to recycle on the left side and where on the right side by entering your zip code or city and state.

This facility is closed on rainy days and major holidays. Household hazardous waste is only accepted in original containers with a limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle.
